Oda Unveils the Haki Types of the Monster Trio
Haki is an enigmatic force that enables users to harness their spiritual energy for various applications. Every living creature in the world has the potential to learn Haki; however, many either remain oblivious to it or struggle to awaken it. While Haki users are prevalent in the New World, they are quite rare in Paradise and almost non-existent in the Four Blues. There are three main types of Haki: Kenbunshoku Haki, which allows the user to sense and anticipate others’ spiritual energy; Busoshoku Haki, which provides a protective layer of spiritual energy; and Haoshoku Haki, a rare ability that permits certain individuals to dominate others’ willpower.
In an SBS (Shitsumon ni O回答), Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, addressed a fan’s query about the Haki users among the Straw Hat Pirates, revealing that there were only three at that time.
D: “Out of curiosity, could you tell me who in the Straw Hat Pirates can utilize Haki? It’s been on my mind and I can’t unleash my Love Hurricane.”
Oda: “There are these three. Their specialty Haki types are indicated in parentheses.”
This doesn’t imply that they won’t develop the other forms of Haki. For instance, Luffy pushed his Kenbunshoku Haki to its limit during his confrontation with Katakuri, allowing him to gain a limited ability to foresee the future. He also acquired advanced Busoshoku Haki in Wano, whereas Zoro gained the ability to consciously control the advanced Haoshoku Haki technique, integrating it with all three of his swords.
Essentially, they will master their respective types of Haki.
Zoro – Master of Busoshoku Haki
Sanji – Master of Kenbunshoku Haki
Luffy – Master of Haoshoku Haki
