How Kate Middleton’s youngest son, Prince Louis showed the beginnings of his cheeky personality as an excited one-year-old at the Chelsea Flower Show

The Chelsea Flower Show has long been a fixture on the royal calendar – and for some, the event will even bring back fond childhood memories.

In 2019, Prince Louis – then only one year old – showed the beginnings of his cheeky personality as he ran around the Princess of Wales’s stunning garden at the Royal Horticultural Society and grinned up-close to the camera.

Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s third child wandered along a wooden path carrying a branch and sampled a swing set as he basked in the magnificent annual display of Britain’s gardening prowess.

The toddler, as well as his siblings – Prince George and Princess Charlotte – had a whale of a time during a sneak peek in the green space.

And it would seem that Louis has from a very young age had a way of finding the camera.

The Wales’s typically emotive youngest son – who has in the five years since become well known and beloved by the public for his expressive features and playful attitude – was also captured in an adorable video that saw him smiling as he ran up to the camera operator.

The young royals contributed to their mother’s creation by collecting leaves, moss and twigs which were then incorporated into the surroundings of the campfire.

Hazel sticks collected by the family were also used to make the garden’s den.

In the pictures, taken by photographer Mr Porteous and released by Kensington Palace, the family could be seen sitting next to the campfire and den.

Toddler Louis looked fascinated as he held a stone, while Kate, kneeling at his side, wrapped her arm around her youngest child.

The RHS Back to Nature Garden was designed by Kate with landscape architects Andree Davies and Adam White, as a woodland setting for families and communities to connect with nature.

Kate’s garden aimed to highlight the benefits the natural world brings to mental and physical well-being.

She and her co-designers were keen to recreate memories, such as wild bluebells, from her childhood.

While the Princess – who is undergoing medical treatment after being diagnosed with cancer – will not be in attendance at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, it has long been a fixture on the royal social calendar.

Yesterday, the King couldn’t hide his amusement as being given a new title – ‘King of the Compost’.

The monarch, 75, was given a badge in honour of his environmental work by schoolchildren at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, while his wife was handed one which read ‘Queen of the Bees’.

Their Majesties were visiting the RHS No Adults Allowed Garden, designed by Harry Holding and children from Sulivan Primary School in London.

‘Oh, ooh thank you very much,’ Charles said.

Looking at the name on badge he chortled: ‘Oh hahaha. Quite right! ‘

Elsewhere, Camilla revealed she had ‘watched the first lot’ of Bridgerton when attending the event in London.

The royal, 76, was touring a majestic ‘Bridgerton’ garden designed by Holly Johnston and inspired by the hit show’s Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan) when she made the admission.
