One Piece: How The Anime Re-edition Will Transform The Fishman Island Arc

In a surprising turn of events, it was recently announced that the Fishman Island Arc of One Piece, which fans known to be the very first proper arc after the 2-year timeskip, is going to be airing once again starting late October.

The Fishman Island Arc is certainly one of One Piece’s most touching stories. However, in the anime, the arc faces quite a lot of issues, particularly ones surrounding the art and animation and, of course, most importantly, the pacing.

Now, the Fishman Island Arc is going to be airing once again, and, as promised by the One Piece staff, there will be changes made to this arc which will improve the experience of the fans dramatically. Here’s how the Fishman Island Arc One Piece will be drastically different this time around.

The Fishman Island Re-edition: What Is It?

The One Piece Anime Goes On A Break

Fishman Island Re-edition Airs In Its Place

The Fishman Island Re-edition that is going to begin airing from late October is essentially a rerun of the Fishman Island episodes of the story. Naturally, fans might be wondering as to why and how it will air. The simple answer to that is the Egghead Island Arc of One Piece, which is currently airing, is going to be put to a stop. Essentially, the staff of One Piece that is currently animating Egghead have delivered such high-level quality that now, they have burnt out. At the same time, in order to keep maintaining the high level of the One Piece anime, they need more time, which is why a break is absolutely needed for them. It is also the right thing to do, given how many staff members working on the anime have mentioned that they sometime to refresh themselves.

Of course, such a decision isn’t for the staff members to take by themselves. It needs to include all the stakeholders, including the likes of Toei, Shueisha, and even Fuji TV. Thankfully, all of them have successfully come to an agreement that the One Piece anime will go on a hiatus, but, the time slot of One Piece isn’t going to be left empty for some other series to take. One Piece will begin re-airing the Fishman Island Arc.

Now, most fans won’t be interested in this project at first glimpse. However, the Fishman Island Arc that is going to begin airing from late October isn’t going to be the same Arc that fans have already watched once. There are going to be massive changes made to the Fishman Island Arc, which is why it is called a re-edition. The aim of the re-edition is to solve all the major issues with the Fishman Island Arc and, essentially, make it a much better experience for all the fans. This will keep fans hooked to One Piece; all the while, the Egghead Arc is going to be worked upon by the staff with more time and a comfortable pace. Overall, this decision will result in One Piece getting a fantastic re-edition of an old arc that needed it, and at the same time, it will ensure that the remainder of the Egghead Island Arc is top-notch in terms of quality.

How The Fishman Island Re-edition Will Improve The Pacing And Quality

The Fishman Island Arc Will Be Condensed For A Better Experience

The question of how the Fishman Island re-edition will improve One Piece is quite simple to answer. As mentioned earlier, there are two things that the One Piece anime gets a lot of stick for, especially after the timeskip, up to the wano Country Arc. The first is the art quality and animation, which, has been incredibly inconsistent since the timeskip. Of course, Wano was a massive step up and ever since then, the art and animation department has worked wonders. But, from Fishman Island all the way to Wano, there have been moments where One Piece has felt incredibly lackluster. This is especially the case in the early arcs, which have been the worst part of the entire series, specifically when it comes to the anime.

Some of the episodes of the anime have had a 6-minute recap, while others have still frames spanning over a minute if not more. This is something that needs to be addressed, which is why a One Piece re-edition is going to work wonders here. There are many scenes that are going to be improved in terms of art and animation quality, and some others reportedly completely overhauled. In what way they are overhauled, fans don’t know at this point in time.

The art and animation quality isn’t the only thing that is going to improve in the One Piece re-addition of the Fishman Island Arc. It was announced that the pacing of the entire Arc is going to be improved as well. As fans know, the Fishman Island arc spans over 51 episodes in the anime. This pacing is incredibly bad when compared to the manga. The manga for Fishman Island has 51 chapters and the anime covers the same content in 51 episodes. For any anime, the pacing needs to be better if a proper adaptation needs to be delivered. 51 episodes are way too much for Fishman Island, and this is one of the reasons why fans feel that arcs in One Piece can be incredibly dragged.

However, now, with the Fishman Island Re-edition, this problem will be fixed as well. It was recently announced that the Fishman Island Arc re-edition will see to it that the arc gets compressed down to 21 episodes, which is incredibly short. This will essentially mean that major changes will be made to the arc to make it a much better experience for fans, and hopefully, this will result in an incredible experience that everyone can enjoy.

Will More One Piece Arcs Get A Re-edition?

The Fishman Island re-edition arc already looks like it is going to be a massive success, given that it is going to fix everything wrong with the arc in the post-timeskip of the story. This makes fans wonder whether the other arcs of One Piece will get a re-edition as well. While there is no confirmation of that, more One Piece arcs in the post-timeskip will likely get a re-edition. This is simply because if the quality that Egghead has delivered up until now is to be maintained, the staff needs more frequent breaks.

Now that a break schedule has been established, it can be repeated once again next year towards the end. Essentially, during the next break, the Punk Hazard Arc can air, and at the same time, the One Piece anime can make major preparations for the Elbaf Arc to begin. Similarly, the following year, the Dressrosa arc can air as a re-edition, which would, once again, give the staff time to drop movie-level animation quality for whatever arc is being worked upon at the time.

Above all, Dressrosa, which is quite easily the worst arc of One Piece in the anime, would finally get justice done, and hopefully, fans will come to love it for what a truly represents.
