The Man Marked by Flames: Is Dragon the Biggest Secret in One Piece?

Eiichiro Oda, the brilliant mind behind One Piece, excels in weaving intricate tales rich with mystery, suspense, and unexpected twists that challenge fans’ perceptions. Among the many compelling characters introduced, Monkey D. Dragon stands out, and there is growing speculation about his significant role in the unfolding narrative.

As the commander of the Revolutionary Army, Dragon is undoubtedly a pivotal character within the One Piece universe, acting as the antithesis to the World Government. However, recent theories suggest even more revelations about his character that could elevate his importance in the story. Let’s explore these possibilities!

The Man Marked By Flames

Dragon may hold the key to the final Poneglyph

The identity of the Man Marked by Flames is one of the most compelling mysteries in One Piece. This enigmatic figure is either in possession of, or aware of the location of, the final Road Poneglyph, and many fans believe that this could very well be Monkey D. Dragon!

Despite the lack of direct evidence, it’s apparent that the Man Marked by Flames bears enormous significance in the world, much like Dragon, who leads one of the greatest threats to the World Government. Some speculate that this mysterious character may actually be Scopper Gaban from the Roger Pirates, known to have information regarding the Poneglyph found on Fishman Island. However, when you examine the details surrounding the Man Marked by Flames, Dragon seems to fit the bill even better.

Dragon’s extensive influence and network of supporters across the world suggest that he could easily know where the Poneglyph is located. Additionally, the Man Marked by Flames is said to navigate a black ship surrounded by whirlpools, a description that may correlate with Dragon’s own vessel and his hinted powers of wind manipulation. Symbolically, Dragon’s name ties to fire, connecting to the flames associated with the character and the mark on his left eye, hinting at a ‘marking’ in his past.

The Wielder Of A God Fruit

Dragon may possess the power to control wind

Dragon’s first appearance occurred during the Straw Hats’ visit to Loguetown, where he intervened to protect Luffy from Smoker. His arrival coincided with a powerful storm, effectively aiding Luffy’s escape from execution by the Marines. This has led fans to speculate about Dragon’s true abilities.

Could he be a pirate in disguise? The Skypeia arc references various gods, and the revelation in Wano affirmed the existence of the Sun God through Luffy’s Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit. Fans are pondering whether Dragon might have consumed the Rain God fruit, granting him the power to influence weather patterns. Based on the hints we’ve seen, this theory seems plausible.

The Son Of Rocks D. Xebec

Dragon may have an extraordinary lineage

One of the most speculative theories proposes that Dragon is the offspring of the infamous Rocks D. Xebec. This theory springs from Dragon’s distinct appearance, which contrasts sharply with that of his son Luffy and father Garp, who remarkably share similar traits.

The similarities between Dragon and the limited silhouettes of Rocks hint at shared lineage—sharp features and dark long hair. What’s more, Garp’s refusal to explicitly confirm that Dragon is his son opens the door for alternative familial connections, possibly through Luffy’s mother. Garp simply acknowledged Luffy as the child of his child, leaving his actual parentage ambiguous.

Garp’s history of raising children related to his enemies, like Ace, raises the possibility that he nurtured Rocks’ child as well. Such dynamics suggest a deep story woven with unexpected relationships, making the lore even more fascinating.
