One Piece Confirms Fans Were Wrong About Luffy’s Dad, & It Has Big Implications For The Final Arc

Luffy’s father, Monkey D. Dragon, has gained a reputation among the One Piece fanbase for how little of an impact he’s made in the overarching plot, but the Egghead arc proved his work will have heavy implications in the series final arcs. Besides saving Luffy from being executed by Buggy in Loguetown, Dragon has made a habit of making rare and brief appearances throughout Eiichiro Oda’s epic, often without contributing to progressing the overarching plot. However, Egghead revealed how busy Luffy’s father has been in One Piece‘s world.

Luffy’s biological family was barely involved in raising him, which heavily plays into One Piece‘s theme of found family. While Luffy and his father have yet to meet in 1124 chapters of the manga, episode #1117 of the anime provides fascinating details about the progress Dragon and his Revolutionaries have made in their campaign against the vile and corrupt World Government.

Dragon’s Revolutionary Plans Are Beginning To Bear Fruit

Luffy and His Father Have Yet To Have Any Relationship Throughout One Piece‘s Story

During the Egghead arc, Sabo had finally made it back to the Revolutionary Army’s current headquarters, where he reconvened with Emporio Ivankov and Dragon. While catching up, they spoke on the progress they’d made towards diminishing the World Government’s food supplies hoarded for the Celestial Dragons, but more importantly, the seeds planted by Luffy’s father have begun to bloom into full-out revolution in several kingdoms across the seas.

One Piece‘s anime recently adapted the revealing conversation with the Revolutionary Army’s leaders discussing the Reverie’s startling events at Mary Geoise, the World Government’s headquarters and home to the vile Celestial Dragons. Sabo and audiences learned that under Dragon’s leadership, the Revolutionary Army inspired twelve separate kingdoms to attempt to revolt against the rule of the World Government. While eight of the oppressed dominions were successful, one has already suffered the consequences for standing against the organization that’s ruled the world with an iron fist for 800 years.

After Sabo had barely survived his escape from Mary Geoise, he became one of the most wanted men in One Piece‘s world for witnessing the World Government’s leaders, the Five Elders, and their secret ruler Imu murder the honorable King Cobra of Alabasta. The genocidal villains believed the revolutionary had fled to Lulusia, one of the kingdoms that recently went against the WG’s rule. They used one of their ultimate weapons to obliterate the entire island, including the innocent people on it. Sabo wasn’t there, but the attack was a reminder of what revolution in One Piece can cost.

The Revolutionary Army Will Help Change The World In The Final Arcs

One Piece Is Written and Illustrated By Eiichiro Oda, Anime Produced By Toei Animation

The final saga of One Piece started strong with Egghead, which saw lots of dramatic confrontations that helped set the stage for the series’ final battles for the legendary treasure. However, the World Government’s response to their foes, including the Revolutionary Army, and their role in the last arcs is one of the most anticipated plotlines fans want resolved. Hopefully, fans will see more of Dragon’s plans come to fruition and possibly even a display of his Devil Fruits powers before One Piece‘s story ends.
