🚨 CHAPTER 1169 JUST “SAVED” ONE PIECE FROM NARUTO’S BIGGEST MISTAKE: ACE IS THE TRUE “CHOSEN ONE” OF ROGER, BUT ODA CHOSE LUFFY TO BREAK THE “RACIAL CURSE” – DO YOU THINK ODA IS A GENIUS?! 😱🔥

Oda’s plan of breaking the chosen one trope and making Luffy the Pirate King instead of Ace proves how One Piece won’t repeat what Naruto did wrong.

With the release of One Piece Chapter 1169, Eiichiro Oda may have stirred up a theory from the past that no one was expecting. The chapter opened with Shanks talking about how Ace was supposed to be the next Pirate King after Roger, but Oda clearly meant Luffy to take that position. This essentially rules out Oda from making the worst mistake Kishimoto made in Naruto.

Oda Breaks an Anime Trope That Naruto Didn’t in One Piece 1169

At the beginning of Chapter 1169 of the One Piece manga, Shanks and Gaban were seen having a conversation when Shanks found out for the first time that Roger had a son. Upon hearing this, Shanks exclaimed that if he were Roger’s child, then he would probably be the one to become the next Pirate King. This essentially proves that Shanks favored Ace to become the new Pirate King.

While it is not officially explained, we all can have a guess now why Shanks brought the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit to Dawn Island, where Luffy accidentally ate it. Shanks likely brought the Devil Fruit, after knowing its true nature, for Ace so that he could inherit Roger’s title and become the Pirate King. However, Oda had different plans, as we all know how it turned out to be.

To strengthen the claim even further, in the same manga chapter, even Gaban mentions:

HEY, IT AIN’T A HEREDITARY POSITION. SOMETIMES THOSE WITH THE GREATEST EXPECTATIONS PLACED ON THEM FAIL TO ACHIEVE THAT GREATNESS…

This is one of the biggest mistakes Eiichiro Oda could have committed in One Piece, following Kishimoto’s path from Naruto. However, Oda stayed true to the series’ core theme of hard work and overcoming destiny by electing Luffy as the next Pirate King.

How Naruto’s Chosen One Trope Ruined Its Ending

Throughout the series, Naruto has always been about the story of ones hardwork will make them achieve greatness. And to be completely fair, the series has followed the trope thoroughly for the majority of the narrative, until the very last moments of Naruto: Shippuden.

Naruto, who has always been the underdog of the series, achieving everything through sheer determination and hard training, was just handed the Sage of Six Paths power. That’s literally the chosen one trope being followed at its grand blantancy. Hagomoro just handed him the power, with him putting zero effort into achieving it; he got it because he is the protagonist.

This one move by Masashi Kishimoto ruined a major part of the ending for many fans as it completely undermined the core sentiment of the narrative. To rub salt in the wound, this is also the core sentiment of not being defined by destiny that fueled the whole Neji and Naruto narrative in the first series. The power-up handed by Kishimoto changed Naruto’s character forever, from being a self-made hero who earned the respect and chakra of the Tailed Beasts to a child of prophecy given divine power.
