The spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1169 have made a lot of things clear about the mysterious death of King Harald of Elbaph. Not only did it free Loki of all the allegations of killing his father, but it also explained the sheer difference in Harald’s strength after he was being controlled by the Supreme Leader of the World Government in Imu.

However, the biggest development that the spoilers featured was Imu and Shanks’ bond that was established because of the Shallows Covenant mark on his hand. He explained how the mysterious contract works and what kind of control it gives to Imu. It truly proves that Imu is the most menacing and terrifying villain of One Piece.

One Piece Spoilers Finally Reveal Why Shanks Sacrificed His Arm

According to the One Piece Chapter 1169 spoilers by @pewpiece on X, Gaban and Shanks had an extended discussion, which we initially saw in Chapter 1152. While Gaban told Shanks about Roger’s son, Shanks informed Gaban about how he met Imu, the Great One, in the Holy Land for the first time and explained the powers of contracts to him while showing the mark on his left arm.

Shanks pointed out that he and Harald both received the Shallows Covenant from the One Piece villain, and even though it is the first stage of the subordinate Covenants, if Shanks is within the distance of Imu’s ability, he won’t be able to go against their orders. Gaban was shocked to hear about the scary power that the Supreme Leader of the World Government possesses, and they went on to discuss Harald and Shanks’ interaction in Mary Geoise.

This development not only explains the official bond between Imu and Shanks, but it also confirms the latter’s reason for intentionally losing his arm while saving Luffy. Considering his actions in the One Piece spoiler, it is safe to assume that he was a spy who tried to gain information on the World Government but went too far and got marked by one of Imu’s contracts. Thus, in order to get rid of it, he saved Luffy and sacrificed his arm, thus getting rid of Imu’s control over him.

Imu’s Control Over Harald Made Him Even More Dangerous

Apart from Shanks’ bond with Imu, the spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1169 also explained how Imu gained control over King Harald and made him even more dangerous. He became so powerful that even the giant guards, Loki, and Jarul weren’t able to subdue him. He then entrusted everything to Loki and asked him to save Elbaph no matter what, while slowly losing his mind to Imu’s menacing abilities.

The spoilers also revealed that Shanks and Gaban arrived at the Aurust Castle to find out what’s going on, and they saw Harald taking down giant guards as Imu strengthens his control over him. Shanks and Gaban attacked Harald, but Harald recovered immediately and overpowered them. Their confrontation ended in the One Piece chapter, with Shanks trying to find a way to cancel the order from the contract.

The one thing that the One Piece spoilers made clear is that the contracts that are formed with Imu are insanely powerful and terrifying. Both Shanks and Harald became victims of it, and while Shanks managed to find a loophole to get out of it, Harald sadly could not.
