One Piece Chapter 1167 might be on par with how interesting yet intense God Valley was, from Shanks’ mission to another tragic death.

After the death of Rocks D. Xebec in Chapter 1166, One Piece has taken a devastating and intense turn. The story just doesn’t give us a break, as in Chapter 1167, titled Ida’s Sons, we will witness another death that might break us again. Moreover, it’s filled with other twists that will change your perception of very prominent characters.
From debunking the theory of Shanks being a government snitch to Loki’s continuous grief, Chapter 1167 is guaranteed to leave you in awe. It might be the most exciting one Eiichiro Oda has written in the Elbaph Arc, minus God Valley’s events. Without a doubt, One Piece is reaching new levels of storytelling with Elbaph.
Harald and Shanks Are on Different Sides of History in One Piece
After Harald breaks his horns in a show of good faith to the World Government, riddled by the guilt of Rocks’ death, he officially becomes a slave to their demands. According to the spoilers given by @pewpiece on X, in Chapter 1167, the World Government sent him on a mission to stop a pirate crew, and from then onwards, he’s been labelled a “monster among the mist.”
Harald then went on to become a God’s Blade for the World Government, which is the same title Gunko was called in Chapter 1160. He also receives a seal from them with the title, and it has three ranks. God’s Blade is the lowest rank, and it might be related to the Abyss Mark.
Meanwhile, the story goes over to Shanks, which takes a surprising turn. It’s revealed that he was the one who freed Fisher Tiger from Mary Geoise 15 years ago. He meets Harald in this chapter, which he told Gaban about in Chapter 1152, but his left eye is patched. This could be the injury that led to the signature three scars that Blackbeard gave him.
Overall, Harald let the World Government use him, and while we know that he wants to redeem Elbaph’s image, this isn’t the way to go about it, especially not after Rocks’ death. On the other hand, Shanks actively defied the World Government and tried to gather information against them.
From his conversation with Gaban in Chapter 1152 and what these spoilers reveal, it’s possible Shanks knew they planned to betray and kill Harald. Moreover, freeing Fisher Tiger also clears him of being on the World Government’s side. Harald, however, is in big trouble.
Ida and Loki’s Connection Gets Stronger After a Tragic Twist

Now comes the devastating part of Chapter 1167. Ida, the biological mother of Harjudin, is the woman who changed Harald’s perspective and showed maternal love towards Loki. He was consistently rejected and abused by his biological mother, Estrid, but found kindness in Ida. However, since this is One Piece, mothers don’t live that long in flashbacks.
Someone from Estrid’s hometown poisons Ida. While we don’t know the motive yet, she dies in Chapter 1167. A grief-stricken Loki gets revenge on the village, and for the first time, we see him acknowledge Ida as his true and only mother. It’s a heartbreaking moment that deepens our understanding of Loki.
Overall, Chapter 1167 sounds like it will be both tragic and epic. We’re overwhelmed by the spoilers themselves, so imagine when the full chapter releases. As soon as Ida was introduced, we knew she shared the same pattern as other One Piece mothers. The Elbaph Arc isn’t giving us a break.
