The spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1169 put a special focus on Loki’s Ragnir and it has hinted that the weapon might have a parallel with Mjolnir.

One Piece Chapter 1169 finally cleared the confusion behind Harald’s death and Loki being blamed for it. According to the spoilers shared by @pewpiece on X, Harald was losing his mind because of his contract with Imu and thus asked Loki to kill him and save Elbaph. He even asked Loki to eat the Legendary Elbaph Devil Fruit, and in search of it, he found his iconic weapon, Ragnir.

Although this isn’t Ragnir’s first introduction, the spoilers strongly foreshadow an intense comparison between Loki’s warhammer and Mjolnir, Thor’s iconic hammer from the Marvel franchise. Thus, it is bound to create a major debate among fans as Eiichiro Oda puts more focus on Loki’s character and his parallels with the Marvel Superhero.

Ragnir vs Mjolnir: Loki and Thor’s Mirrored Weapons

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has been quite open about drawing inspiration from real-life figures, mythological narratives, and different fantastical elements. In fact, the entire Elbaph arc is heavily inspired by Norse Mythology, drawing from Viking culture, the Nine Realms of Yggdrasil, and figures like Loki and Thor. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Oda used Thor’s Mjolnir as inspiration for Loki’s Ragnir, deliberately creating parallels between the two weapons.

Ragnir first appeared in One Piece Chapter 1130, and it initially looked like a simple giant warhammer with a bandaged handle. However, as the story moved forward, it was revealed that Ragnir allowed Loki to summon lightning by striking a chosen surface.

The mysterious weapon allows him to make thunderclouds in the skies above and send down large lightning bolts to hit the struck location. This unique ability was also seen with Thor’s Hammer, as he is the Norse god of thunder, lightning, storms, strength, and protection.

Another major parallel between Mjolnir and Ragnir is that only Loki is able to pick up Ragnir, just like only Thor could hold Mjolnir (until Steve Rogers proved him wrong).

Although the reality behind it has not been revealed yet, there are speculations that Ragnir has some unique characteristic that makes it difficult to wield for characters other than Loki in One Piece. These parallels highly suggest that Oda might have drawn inspiration from Thor’s Mjolnir for Loki’s Ragnir.

One Piece Chapter 1169’s spoilers revealed an interesting detail about Loki’s Ragnir that raises a lot of speculation. When Loki went to eat the legendary Devil Fruit, he found Ragnir in the room, but according to the spoilers, it was moving. It reached a point where Ragnir launched an attack on Loki, but he dodged it and later heard a unique laugh that made him question everything.

While it can’t be said for certain, there is a big possibility that Ragnir might have a personality or will of his own. This would not only be another parallel between Ragnir and Mjolnir, but also explain why he chose Loki to be his only wielder in One Piece. Also, it would increase his significance within the Elbaph storyline as he won’t just be a simple weapon anymore, but a powerful warhammer with a will of its own.

The story is slowly moving out of the flashback, and before it ends completely, Oda needs to clear all the major details. Because once the flashback is over, the story will get straight into a battle between Imu and his army, against the Straw Hat Pirates, and the remaining giants.
